On Saturday the 25th April, the 2nd Roehampton Community Shield Tournament was held at Whiteland Campus. This tournament was set up to raise money for the projects Regenerate support worldwide. We are also committed to strengthening links in the community. We would like to thank the University for not only hosting the event but also entering a team. We would also like to thank Mark Roberts and Andy Smith from Regenerate for all their hard work helping organise and helping run the tournament. A massive thank you to all the club reps who contributed to the tournament too.
Refreshments were donated by Asda Putney Vale and Londis in Danbury Avenue. This year six teams entered. However only one team could win. After a closely battled tournament the final two teams left were FC Dara B and the Roehampton University team. They battled a closely contested final however FC Dara B came out on top with a 1-0 victory. We would like to thank Malachi Kelly who once again took pictures of the tournament. We also would like to thank Councillor Sue McKinney for attending and supporting the tournament.
We would like to congratulate FC Dara B on winning this year’s community shield and we look forward to planning and holding next year’s tournament. We hope it will be bigger and better so we continue fighting poverty through football!
