Can you tell us about yourself, who are you, what you do and where you’re based?
My name’s Michelle, I live in Putney and I am a photographer. I have been volunteering with Regenerate for probably around four years now. I found them online and I was really moved by what they do so I tagged along as their photographer to one of their Citylights events which runs four times a year, and that started my ongoing relationship with them.
Thank you so much for fundraising for Regenerate, can you tell us more about the event and what inspired you to do a clothes sale?
Like many girls my age I love clothes! I also love good company and cocktails (of course)! So I thought I would combine these elements and put on a fundraiser event where people can clear out their wardrobes to sell & buy their nearly-new unwanted clothes, hang out and get to know about Regenerate & the amazing work they do. The event is called The Great Putney Clothes Sale, taking place on Thursday 6th August starting at 7.30pm until 10pm & All the items for sale are £20 or less. There will be cocktails, live music, all in the gardens of a very beautiful church called St Mary’s which is just on the banks of the Thames in Putney. It should be a really lovely setting with, lots of beautiful nearly new clothes! So hopefully there’ll be lots of great bargains available on the day in really good company and in aid of a fantastic charity. It’s £10 donation to take part and you get to keep your profits (or add to your donation if you are feeling especially generous!)
Tell us what else you’ve done at Regenerate and why you get involved again and again?
I help out at the girls group and I am about to start the mentoring program as a mentor which I’m very excited about! I also help out with a bit of photography every now and again at events and wherever I’m needed. Regenerate are great and are really flexible in terms of how much I get involved, there’s no pressure & they are very understanding of my freelance-natured workload. I’d really encourage anyone thinking about volunteering but worried about how much time they can commit to find out more & give it a go. It’s been a rewarding & enriching experience for me.
What advice would you give to anyone who wants to get involved with Regenerate or may be planning a fund raiser?
Pop on the website, drop Andy or Claire (the founders) or any of the staff an email – they’re all extremely friendly and always supportive of fundraising ideas for the charity & various projects that they’ve got going on such as The Feel Good Bakery, mentoring programs and trips abroad to name a few, which are absolutely amazing and life changing for the kids. If you have an idea for something I’d say just go for it! It does require little bit of planning and organisation but I’ve found that once you just get the ball rolling people will get alongside and help make it happen. I would definitely say it’s a fantastic experience! Do it! 🙂
