Please give a warm welcome to Mary Riley, our new youth worker at the Ashburton Youth Club.
My name is Mary and I have been a Roehamptonite, both living and working in the area since 1985. I spent much of my childhood in the care system, firstly with Hackney and then with Wandsworth where my sister and I were very fortunate to be placed in the care of well- run Children homes and under the care of two brilliant Social Workers, who always had our best interests at heart.Leaving care at eighteen, I began my journey into young adulthood and the workforce but always felt something was missing in my life. Making contact with one of my social workers and explaining my predicament, I began to pick her brains for ideas. As always she gave me great advice on ways to pursue my dreams. This was the beginning of my journey into Further Education and Youth Work training. Beginning in 1988 as a volunteer as part of my Youth Work training I worked and trained until I qualified from Goldsmiths College in 1994 as a Full Time Youth and Community Worker. In 2012 I was made redundant from Wandsworth Council after working with them 22 years having worked my way up to a Senior Youth Worker position. It has been good to see the initial development of Regenerate over the years and what it has become today and it is great to now be a part of the Regenerate Family.
