“I liked the atmosphere, no one’s judging any one”.
As we drove away from The Brixton Soup Kitchen today, this was one of the young people’s reflections.
It’s the Easter holidays, so we had arranged a World Changers trip and took some of the young people from Regenerate’s youth club over to help out at The Brixton Soup Kitchen.
After lunch, we cleaned up and listened to Micah, the kitchen manager and Solomon, the founder, who told us the story of the soup kitchen. The young people were really engaged and impressed to find out their services have expanded to home visits, where they take food to families who are living in poverty. It was fascinating to hear from these two young men who are committed to making a change for good in their community. Afterwards, one of the young people said she loved the family feel the soup kitchen had. In her own words this environment made her feel ‘at home’.
The young people worked hard, engaged and listened. When we got back we got our diaries straight out to arrange another trip there, so that more young people can experience the work the Brixton soup kitchen does in their community .
