Earlier this year Regenerate was given funding by The Cooperative Foundation to create a community garden space that will bring the community together to help tackle social isolation.
A group of young people took part in the Reclaim Mentoring Project to reclaim an used piece of land at the back of the Ashburton youth centre and transform it into a beautiful garden!
Regenerate worked with the Reclaim Project to plan and develop the new space. This brought the young people together and gave them a boost in confidence as they learnt new skills, made goals together and saw their vision become a reality that everyone could enjoy.
Nicola took part in the project and said:
‘ The best thing about us designing and creating our garden is that we now have a calm, safe and fun space for everyone to use. We can have pizza evenings which we means we get to meet new friends, I thought I would hate being involved as I hate getting dirty but its been really fun and I can’t believe how good it now looks!’
The Garden is an accessible space for all, it will attract wildlife, and has vegetable beds to grow food which can be used by the young people and their families, it has a pizza oven, a BBQ and picnic area as well as a space for a fire pit and area to hang out. This space will bring the community together to keep the space beautiful, to eat together and make happy memories.
