“It was one of the best weekends I’ve had!”
During the holidays a group of 11 young people set off for an action-packed weekend at PGL adventure centre at Marchants Hill in Surrey. The activities included zip wire, rifle shooting, archery, aero ball, raft building, Jacobs ladder, problem solving and camp fire.
The group came together from different schools, peer groups and youth clubs. For the weekend to be a success they would have to work hard to gel as a team and work together to get the most out of the experience. One of the young people commented “during problem solving we worked hard as a team to solve some of the challenges we were given”. Sometimes the PGL staff did not have very good plans and the young people stepped in, suggested ideas and made something happen. What an opportunity to gain leadership skills.
Many of the young people pushed the boundaries of their fears in the climbing activities and were a constant source of encouragement to each other as they ascended and descended walls. “My goal was to get to the top of the abseiling tower and then I eventually went down the tower!”
The older members of the group took responsibility and looked out for the youngest in the group and the youngest often encouraged the oldest. It was a lot of fun and at the end of the weekend they were asking about next year! “It was one of the best weekends I’ve had!” commented JH.
