Regenerate has been busy!

As the new term starts let us remind ourselves about our busy summer.

The youth club ran a summer activities schedule for our young people, which included volunteering days at local community projects, and various cooking, sports or creative workshops. The young people designed the summer program and through the Jack Petchy scheme and donations we had the opportunity to take them to their choices of Thorpe Park and Liquid Leisure Aqua Park.

As part of our Get Connected programme Regenerate hosted The Feel Good Festival on 29th July. It was a great success, despite the rain (and it surely rained!) We had a huge local turn out to enjoy music, sports events, fairground rides and the relaxed and happy atmosphere. There were lots of new attractions this year including a huge tipi on the green.  We had circus skills workshops including fire juggling and giant bubble blowing from performers on stilts! Vauxhall City Farm came long with their petting zoo, as did the chickens from Growhampton – who also brought their farmers market stall selling locally Roehampton grown fruit and veg. The fire brigade popped in so children were able to climb on board and explore the fire engine. There were performances on the main stage from local schools – including The Ark Putney Academy as well as local choir ‘Achoired Taste’. The Regenerate young people took centre stage at the end of the day singing and dancing in the rain for hours alongside John Amudeli and friends. We had 250 elderly residents gathered in the marquee for a special cream tea hosted by Regenerate-Rise. It was great to see such a mix of ages as local residents came together.

A special thank you to every one who attended and supported The Feel Good Festival. This year’s festival was a very memorable one, not because it poured with rain, but because of the amazing community groups and individuals who made it such a vibrant, special and fun day of celebration.

The 2017 festival had the support of Wandsworth Council, The Roehampton Club and Redrow plc.

Regenerate Journeys

We have had two successful trips to Romania this summer – this involved a group of students from Ark Putney Academy as part of our Get Helping programme. They were based in Csekefalva – a rural Roma community. They planned and hosted a variety of fun activities including dance, games, arts and crafts and sport. They helped prepare and serve food for the children there. One student who had never been abroad before said “he loved the experience and can’t wait to travel more in the future”

The second trip was a fundraising and life changing mission – climbing up and along The Fagaras Ridge in Romania. A team of nine guys from Regenerate have returned alive and well after trekking for five days up and along the Fagaras ridge in Romania.  Scaling over 2500 meters high whilst carrying huge backpacks, as they were camping out along the ridge as they went. “It was one of the toughest things I have ever done in my life but it was minor compared with what I learnt about my self” Ryan (future youth leader)

Fundraising news

Regenerate’s Get Leading Campaign – thanks to the Fagaras fundraising trip we have raised just over £17000 of our £20,000 target. The young leaders that this campaign supports are making huge positive changes in the local community.

Our recent Neighbourhood Nosh fundraiser in Barnes was a great evening – thank-you to everyone who hosted, and all our guests who meant we again raised much needed funded funds for Regenerate’s programme.
