Get Helping – Community Garden Project

For the past three weeks, The Putney Community gardens,  Ark Putney Academy and Regenerate have joined forces for an exciting new project. We have been collecting discarded pieces of furniture left lying around the Ashburton Estate ( bath tubs, wardrobes, tables and sinks) and upcycling these – turning them in to beautiful and useful creations, such as this bench and this upcycled bathroom garden . As well as upcycling, we have been gardening around the Ashburton Estate in hidden green pockets, growing  and cooking with local produce.

This project has been a really positive process for every one involved… local people coming together in the local community working together, eating together, creating together, connecting with each other and our surroundings. Mr Mcinerney, dept principal at the Arc Academy, had this to say:

“Ark Putney Academy has been fortunate to work with Regenerate who have taken a group of disengaged students and show them what it means to be part of a community. They have worked as a team and met local people from who are trying to create a better environment for us all.Our students have enjoyed the experience; the best measure of this is the fact that they are all keen to continue their involvement with Regenerate after the project comes to a close. They have grown an interest in the local community projects and learnt new skills which will hopefully turn into hobbies.”
